Halite forms isometric crystals. The mineral is typically colourless to yellow, but may also be light blue, dark blue or pink. It is formed over millions of years and is a purely natural substance. In the 19th Century a polish health officer Felix Botchkowski noticed that workers of salt mines rarely suffered from respiratory diseases. He studied the positive effects of the salt mine atmosphere on human beings and published a book about it in 1843.
